Every year from late April through May, flocks of sandpipers, plovers, Whimbrels, and many other shorebirds pass through the Tofino area. Thousands stop here to feed and rest as they make their impressive journey from South and Central America northward to their Arctic breeding grounds. The Tofino Shorebird Festival celebrates this impressive annual migration with a series of educational birding activties throughout the region. We draw on local and visiting experts to participate in the festival, offering guest lectures, birding workshops and much more! This is a great opportunity to experience the largest wildlife migration in the region, learn about these impressive birds, and understand why Tofino is one of the very best places in western Canada for bird watching.

Wings takes place in Radium, Brisco, Edgewater, Windermere, Panorama, Fairmont and Canal Flats. Many different aspects of migration will be explored including the migration of waterfowl and songbirds and the seasonal movement of ungulates, carnivores, butterflies, bats, fish and even humans. The festival coincides with International Migratory Bird Day and will include hikes, river floats, workshops, presentations, children's activities, guest speakers, exhibits, food and more.

The theme for the 19th Annual Wings Over the Rockies Festival is to be announced. Don't miss this year's festival!

Count, map and learn. Work side-by-side with experts. Add to the site's official species list. Highlight the importance of protecting biodiversity of these extraordinary National Historic Sites. Three ways to participate: - Drop-in family activities on the beach, forest and meadow. Friday night and Saturday. No registration.
