In May 2014, the RBCM Invertebrate team boarded a Canadian Coast Guard research vessel set to sail along the North Coast of British Columbia. For two weeks, Dr. Melissa Frey, Curator of Invertebrates and Heidi Gartner, Collection Manager of Invertebrates along with their colleagues from Fisheries and Oceans Canada, combed the remote seascapes of northern BC in search of living treasures. Join us as they document their discoveries of the diverse and the exotic, and discuss the importance of stewardship for these northern shores. Celebrate BC's Family Day overlooking the mighty Fraser River participating in the many fun hands-on activities being organized in celebration of BC Family Day.

Enjoy an entertaining, interactive demonstration about the scientific facts behind air pressure with Mad Science's "Up, Up and Away" presentation. Show times - 11:30 am and 1:30 pm. Please note: These one hour presentations will be held in the Discovery Centre's Canyon Theatre, so seating will be limited.

This free family-fun day is presented by the City of New Westminster, in partnership with the Fraser River Discovery Centre and the River Market. Join us in New Westminster for live music, storytelling, magic shows, demonstrations and much more.

Wild Romance will be an evening of performances, presentations and adult only activities looking at the wilder side of reproduction, mating and courtship. Come away from event with your brain full of strange facts such as: The longest penis (relative to its body size) in the animal kingdom belongs to the barnacle Female porcupines have a very short mating season, only 8 to 12 hours Slugs are hermaphrodites, having both male and female reproductive organs 19 and older only. Every year from late April through May, flocks of sandpipers, plovers, Whimbrels, and many other shorebirds pass through the Tofino area. Thousands stop here to feed and rest as they make their impressive journey from South and Central America northward to their Arctic breeding grounds. The Tofino Shorebird Festival celebrates this impressive annual migration with a series of educational birding activities throughout the region. We draw on local and visiting experts to participate in the festival, offering guest lectures, birding workshops and much more! This is a great opportunity to experience the largest wildlife migration in the region, learn about these impressive birds, and understand why Tofino is one of the very best places in western Canada for bird watching.

Wings takes place in Radium, Brisco, Edgewater, Windermere, Panorama, Fairmont and Canal Flats. Many different aspects of migration will be explored including the migration of waterfowl and songbirds and the seasonal movement of ungulates, carnivores, butterflies, bats, fish and even humans. The festival coincides with International Migratory Bird Day and will include hikes, river floats, workshops, presentations, children's activities, guest speakers, exhibits, food and more.

The theme for the 19th Annual Wings Over the Rockies Festival is to be announced. Don't miss this year's festival!
