Start your summer off with a bang! Step back in time with a walk through Nanaimo's oldest heritage building and visit three floors of museum exhibits. Visitor information is also available during Bastion operating hours. Experience the cannon firing re-enactment ceremony from 11:45-12:00 daily. On Thursdays and Saturdays in July and August only the cannon firing ceremony features Highland dance performances by youth from the Brigadoon Dance Academy. These dance performances are a tribute to the Scottish families that immigrated to Nanaimo in the 1850s. The Bastion is located on Front Street in downtown.

For 121 continuous years the Victoria Day weekend has been celebrated in Kaslo with a three day festival!

Hosted by the Kaslo and Area Chamber of Commerce, the highlight of this celebration is the annual May Pole Dance performed by the 1st graders of Kaslo. Kaslo is home to the longest consecutive annual Maypole Dance in North America. Many other events contribute to the popularity of this weekend including the Logger Sports Competition, Sk8Park Demonstration, Show N Shine Antique Car Show, horse show and Slo-Pitch ball tournament. Artists, craftsmen, musicians and performers are featured in Vimy Park throughout the weekend. The annual May Days Parade on Monday tops off the celebration.

The Lund Shellfish Festival is a 'green event' with recycling bins placed at strategic locations. This event produces no garbage so bring your own plate or buy a souvenir plate.

Limited parking is available, so take the bus from Powell River for only $2.00 per person. Or stay for the weekend at one of Lund's accommodation providers.
