Santa Claus has made his list, checked it twice and has decided that the children of Nanaimo have been oh, so nice! Now, Santa has decided to make a special visit, all the way from the North Pole to Nanaimo. On Saturday, November 30th at the harbourfront in downtown, children from all over will come to welcome Santa and his entourage of singing dancing Elves, who will be arriving in Nanaimo aboard a Harbour Air sea plane. Santa's arrival in Nanaimo is to officially open his namesake workshop in downtown Nanaimo and to star in the Lion's Club Santa Parade at 5pm. The DNBIA invites children and families to kick off the holiday this season and celebrate Santa's official arrival in Downtown Nanaimo!

This annual event kicks off with the Lighting of the Christmas Trees at the Court House on Friday evening.
Local choirs & musicians sing carols while everyone munches on cookies & candy canes, washed down with hot chocolate, all supplied free by local sponsors.
Saturday's a special day for the children, starting with a traditional pancake breakfast with Santa & followed by the downtown Santa Parade.
Saturday evening's Sailpast sees festively decorated commercial & pleasure boats parading their vessels up & down the harbour playing Christmas music.
Hot chocolate, apple cider & cookies are free in keeping with the spirit of the season.

This annual Christmas tradition began more than 50 years ago in Coal Harbour with one boat decorated with Christmas lights. Today, more than 50 boats festooned with 100,000-plus twinkling lights can be seen gliding through Vancouver's waterways on peak evenings. The spectacle viewed from shore is free, but the best experience is aboard the carol ships themselves, which carry more than 30,000 guests every season. Tickets for different ships range in price & offerings.
