Ocean's Day has been celebrated worldwide since 1992, when it was declared a celebratory day to care for our oceans at the Rio de Janeiro Earth Summit. On June 8th, many partners in Campbell River are coming together to help make this a fun-filled family event. Most of the activity will take place around the Maritime Heritage Centre. Past events have included such things as Coast Guard Tour of Point Race, Free Fishing at the Pier, Aquaculture info, DFO demo of the ROV Remotely operated vehicle, free tours at the centre, Pirate Bounce-A-Rama, Dunk Tank & music.

The Canadian Cancer Society Relay For Life is a celebration of survival and a tribute to the lives of loved ones who have been touched by cancer. Teams of people commit to raising funds and fighting back against this disease as they participate in a 12 hour non-competitive relay by taking turns walking, running or strolling around a track in the community.

Relay For Life is more than just a fundraiser, it is an opportunity to get together with family & friends & celebrate cancer survivors, remember loved ones lost to cancer & fight back against this disease. Takes place at the Fernie Secondary School from 11:00 am-11:00 pm.

The Telus Van Isle 360 yacht race is a 580 nautical mile race circumnavigating wild & rugged Vancouver Island.

The race is run in a series of 10 legs & includes both inshore, offshore & overnight legs through some of the most challenging & beautiful waters on the planet.

The timing for the entire race is dictated by the currents through Seymour Narrows (just north of Campbell River). Seymour Narrows has some of the strongest currents in the world, at times reaching 16 knots. A northbound ebb early in the day through this area determines the dates for the race.

Our goal is to inspire and stimulate people to explore their relationship with the ocean by bringing together local and international filmmakers and presenters in a multimedia event and film competition. Celebrate World Oceans Day as we present three shows of world class documentaries at the VIFF Vancity Theatre.

Imagine achieving marathon success surrounded by crisp ocean air, lush forests and the warm and friendly people of Ucluelet and Tofino. It is a day that will be etched in your memory for many years to come!

You will follow an undulating course from the town of Tofino to the village of Ucluelet. Marathon and relay teams will run on beautiful Chesterman's Beach in Tofino and through the Pacific Rim National Park, while half marathoners will be treated to a run on the Wild Pacific Trail in Ucluelet.

Enjoy a day of old-fashioned fun at our old time social. Games of chance, raffles, giant bake sale table, musical entertainment, and of course our yummy strawberry shortcake. Visit our Living History camp where Black Powder and Royal Engineers re-enactors will be putting on black powder demonstrations, ax and knife throwing and firing the candy cannon. More info to come as it becomes available. Admission charges apply.

Located in historic Ladner Village, this 3 block long, open-air market runs rain or shine and has over 150 vendors from all over the southern province. Visitors will have a variety of fresh produce, meat, plants, garden art, handmade jewelry, soaps, furniture and crafts. They can also sample an array of food and beverages from restaurants and market vendors. Market is open 2 Sundays per month - check website for updates.

Takes place at the Mountain View School Ball Field from 10:00 am-10:00 pm.
