The Dance Centre's popular Discover Dance! noon hour series leaps into a new season, with an exhilarating performance of African dance by Jacky Essombe. Born in Cameroon, Essombe is well known for her inspiring teaching and performances that express the cultural traditions and ancient rhythms of West and Central Africa. This interactive presentation features Essombe and her team of dancers and musicians in a program of high-energy dances, live drumming and singing that is steeped in the poetic imagery and wisdom of her ancestors, creating an experience to excite the eyes, engage the spirit and refresh the soul. There will be an artist talk back after the show.

Les Amusements de la Chambre presents Ha¨ndel's Salon, a concert of chamber music for soprano, violin, and harpsichord by George Frideric Händel. The program includes a selection of Ha¨ndel's English songs (HWV 228), a fascinating group of works that offer a glimpse into London's rich and varied musical life of the early eighteenth century. These beautiful works are rarely heard in live performance in Canada, so this is an early music experience that is not to be missed! Performers: Dorothea Hayley (soprano), Emily Redhead (violin), Katelyn Clark (harpsichord) Tickets: $25 general, $20 seniors, $10 students. An avid animal lover and Vancouver-based artist, Monika Blichar regularly turns her dogs' adventures into pet-loving art and is inviting the community to do the same at her one-day 'Pet Portrait Fundraiser' hosted at Meccanica by Cressey as part of the Revolving Door series. Bring your pet down with his or her accessories, get a photo of your best buddy and support the North Shore Animal Welfare Society and Make and Break Arts Foundation. The event will also feature a pet apparel and accessory sale as well as some light refreshments.
