The other night I was in downtown Fort St. John contemplating how to spend my evening. I grabbed a coffee at Java on Main then decided to walk downtown. I started out at the intersection of 100th Street and 100th Avenue. Once at that intersection I saw a new kiosk which I later found out was part of the City’s new unveiling of a Pioneer Pathway. This pathway features kiosks showcasing historic Fort St. John with pictures of pioneer businesses and what Fort St. John used to look like! When I started the walk I headed down 100th Street to see more of the kiosk, all of them tell of stories about how pioneers came to Fort St. John, their struggles and their positive impact on the community. I enjoyed my coffee, history and a leisurely walk.

On a beautiful July night I was enamored with the beautiful sunset that had illuminated the sky with the colours of a brilliant fire. I decided I wanted to take a walk to enjoy the warm night and beautiful scenery.

When trying to decide where to take a walk I was made aware of the great walking trails available in Fort St. John. I was told about the Paved Walking Trail system in and around Fort St. John which features kilometers of freshly paved, wide sidewalks which can accommodate bikes, rollerblades, walkers and runners! The greatest part about the walking trail was that the paved sections are not immediately next to the road way so I felt comfortable to take a walk along the roads!

I started the walk at Northern Lights College where I parked and starting walking west, this part of the trail brought me to a section of the walking trail that brings you into a treed area then it opens up to fields behind a residential area but then also along the railroad. The vast area makes walking a joy and an opportunity for great photography!

After living away from the Peace region for a few years, I totally forgot how beautiful the wide open skies are! It seems every summer evening the sky is beautiful when the sun is setting, and the light bounces off the clouds to create a seemingly never ending heaven. There is a window of opportunity for some fantastic and fun photos.

My friends and I took a drive up the highway and on the drive back I glanced at the setting sun and it was something out of the Africa savannah. The sun was huge and beautiful, I had to snap a picture with the sky bright pink and orange and then giving way to blue, it was almost a spiritual feeling and then I remembered why I love the summer evenings in the Peace.
