While on a trip to the Wells and Barkerville area I had the pleasure of staying at the Cariboo Joy RV Park in Wells. We were pleased with Joy’s friendly greeting and her personal tour of the campground in order to find a site that best suited us. The full service RV park is located a short walking distance to the multitude of art galleries in Wells and only a few minute drive from the historic town of Barkerville. The sites were very private with many trees and were beautifully maintained. The campground also had a unique flare with colourful umbrellas and covered picnic areas to relax under. If you had forgotten a piece of equipment at home or just wanted to hang around the campsite a variety of supplies and games were available for rent. Campers can also take part in a true gold rush activity by goldpanning on an actual gold claim or even partake in some ballroom dancing lessons from the wonderful Aussie hostess.

Located about 12km north of Quesnel, Ten Mile Lake provides easy access to the multitude of attractions that the area has to offer. Being only an hour from Barkerville and only about 15 minutes from Quesnel the lake is the perfect place to spend the day. Just off of highway 97 the provincial park offers an array of campsites and a large well-maintained day-use area with a small beach, picnic tables, changerooms and a playground. Or if you prefer there is a beaver pond interpretive trail through the forest and an amphitheatre for interpretive presentations about the area. There is also a series of other trails around the lake that turn into cross-country ski trails in the winter. I was impressed by the peaceful setting of the lake which is perfect for boating, fishing or lying on the beach in the sun.

This weekend my friend and I took her two year old daughter to the circus.  Jordan World Circus is traveling around Northern British Columbia and Northern Alberta.  There were many terrific performances and some unbelievable stunts.  For animals they had poodles, bears, and elephants.  They also had moterbikes, a bounce slide, pictures with the bears and poodles, rides on the elephants, and stunt performers.  The stunts performed were amazing and displayed unique talents.  Our favorite part was the elephants and we really enjoyed ourselves.

There we are! I much enjoyed this day; a scrabble at the Smithers Golf and Country Club made the end of a day that much more enjoyable.  Teams were scheduled to six holes, and we all got to hit the ball from the closest to the target.  A dinner and a silent auction was to follow.

On July 15, 2009 the RCMP came to Smithers to show some talent at our very own Fair Grounds.  The two shows at 2 and 7 filled the stands.  This was a awsome treat for residents, and the very special people from out of town.  This was the first time the show has been held in Smithers for almost 20 years.  The proceeds went toward funding local community policing initiatives.

I know that the guys of CN are working hard,so why not take the train from Prince George to Prince Rupert is a fine idea of relaxing and taking up the scenery in BC.  Choosing Totom class is where you get to relax in the panoramic dome, and enjoy a hot meal.  The Comfort class provides an economy of total comfort.  Traveling by train in the winter is also a very fine idea because you don't have to pay by class (hint, hint).

The Central Park Building in Smithers includes an Art Gallery, Museum, and a Dance Studio.  I think the the building is intresting from the back, and not too many people get to see or notice it.  Enjoy!

The Bulkley Valley Museum Presents: A Smithers Culture Crawl. The crawl takes visitors on a remarkable and fascinating stroll.  Our Culture Crawl explores the Swiss and Dutch migration to Smithers, history of Music in the Bulkley Valley, the history of the Fire Department, breathtaking gardens, and unique Aladdin and Eaton kit homes.  Every day at 12 noon a sirine sounds from our fire hall, so one Friday I had to ask if I could take some pictures from the tower.  Enjoy!

 Bonjour,

Smithers is so exciting during the summer months.  I like to go hiking and canoeing in remote locations then participate in Smithers community events after an early morning.
