In September 2006, by luck or by fate, my groom and I found the idyllic, secluded haven that is Lillooet Lake Lodge.
Originally, we'd planned on staying just one night somewhere on our way to a guest ranch near 70 Mile House, but ultimately decided to leave the ranch early, and return to Lillooet Lake Lodge for the remainder of our honeymoon.
It's serene and rustic, with truly majestic views. The property has an interesting history, and proprietors Jacob & Elisabeth are perfect hosts.
We stayed in two different cabins, both cozy and uniquely decorated. I highly recommend the largest cabin (I think it's #5) - - what Jacob has done to transform a former wood shed will amaze you. It has the feel of a lakeside chalet from 70 years ago, though it's fully wired with power. After a paddle on the lake or a walk up to the waterfall, the wood stove will warm you through and through. Outhouses are just steps away, and are well-maintained.
To get to Lillooet Lake Lodge, there's a bit of a drive on a gravel road, but it's worth the ride to find peace amongst the trees and Elisabeth's gardens. I treasure memories of playing crib, making dinner, and enjoying the scenery at this charming retreat.
There's also space for campers at Lillooet Lake Lodge. So whichever you choose, I encourage you to step back from everyday life at one of my favourite spots in BC.
