For the second time in three years, my family spent a delightful week in Parksville, BC.  We attended the annual sand sculpture competition.  My kids were amazed at all the great creations.  Here they posed in front on one of their favorites!!

We went "down the hill" into the Bella Coola Valley last summer and it is even prettier than we remembered it from our first visit. The people were very friendly and the scenery was spectacular. We made several friends in the town of Hagensborg and saw the Native crafts in the town of Bella Coola.  We hiked and explored the whole area before we went back up the hill and continured our travels in the Chilcotin area.  We will be back.

For years my husband and I would drive through the Fraser Canyon, where the land soars up from the river and there he would watch river rafters conquering the mighty Fraser River.

Last year we got up our courage and decided to make a day trip down the Fraser River with Kumsheen Whitewater Rafting near Lytton, BC

We were very impressed with the professionalism that the staff conducted and were pleasantly surprised how our guide had all of us on the raft working as a team and enjoying each other's company. The staff made sure we had a thrill of a lifetime, sparing no dryness!

Kumsheen also has a wonderful resort for the rafters use, stemming from lifesize chess to beach volleyball, rock climbing, pool and spa, disc golf, basketball, tetherball or just plain relaxing afterwards in their lounge or coffee bar or at a nearby waterfall.  There is something for just about everyone.

We certainly weren't disappointed and encourage everyone to try rafting at least once in their lifetime.

Every year, without fail, we sneak away for a long weekend in December to Tofino. This is our time to wind down before all the hussle and bussle of Christmas descends upon the Lower Mainland.  We love to go to Middle Beach Lodge and Crystal Cove.  We've already booked for Dec 2007!  This will be our 11th year of the winter visit.  We always fall in love over and over again with the views of the ocean at our doorstep.  If only you could bottle it and take it home.

We're usually in time for "Jingle Bell Rock" which is their late night hristmas shopping celebration and we're finding new shops or restaurants to visit everytime we visit.

Our little Min Schnauzer loves it too because Tofino is dog-friendly!

The West End Bed and Breakfast was the best place to stay to enjoy Stanley Park.

We rented bicycles each day within walking distance and were able to spend our weekend exploring the natural beauty of Stanley Park and the surrounding area!

We found this revolving restaurant within walking distance of our B&B.

We had cocktails in the evening and brunch on Sunday and saw the most amazing view at very affordable prices!

I had the pleasure last May of taking the ferry over to Victoria, BC, from Seattle for a daytrip, and I happened upon the finest museum I've ever visited. The Royal British Columbia Museum was filled with stunning and atmospheric exhibits on everything from the wildlife of the province to the story of its native peoples, through the exciting time of the prospectors and the development of urban life in BC.  And not only were the exhibits a feast for all the senses, but the dining facilities and gift shop were top-notch, too.

Lost at Night on the Lake

About 25 years ago I was spending a week with the couple I boarded with in Calgary at a campsite on the Okanagan Lake. Friends had a cottage across the lake and came for me. It was late when they decided to take me back to my campsite. However the boat did not have lights and it was very dark out there on the lake. All the shore line looked alike. We were not sure which place was where I belonged. I saw a lantern swinging to and fro. It was the couple I lived with, frantic about me hoping we'd see the light, which we did. I was only 19 at the time so it didn't seem like a big deal but they were so concerned about me.

I also remember one of the boys got the runs from the delicious B.C. cherries and could not go into Kelona with us for the evening.
