Rossland, BC is known for its incredible and numerous outdoor activities in both summer and winter; biking, hiking, golfing, downhill, cross country and cat skiing, festivals, events, dining and nightlife. With all these things to do, sometimes on a vacation you just need to relax. There are two great spas in Rossland, DandiLion Wellness Centre & Spa and Rossland Medical Aesthetics and Day Spa. I thoroughly enjoyed the ultimate facial and manicure at the Rossland Medical Aesthetics and Day Spa. The treatments, products and staff were all wonderful. The combination of a vacation with rejuvenation and relaxation is an unbeatable experience and Rossland was the ideal location, with its small town charm, relaxed lifestyle and beautiful scenery. There are, blissfully, no traffic lights or malls in town, just friendly owner-operated shops and boutiques that help contribute to Rossland's charm. It was wonderful to be pampered in this beautiful alpine city, whether it is after a long day riding the epic Seven Summits, golfing Redstone’s championship course or simply visiting Rossland for the sole purpose of relaxing you won’t be disappointed.

Strolling around Rossland this summer, you can’t help but notice the mountain ash trees loaded with berries, signifying an excellent upcoming snow season for Rossland.

The legend of the mountain ash berries, states that many years ago, a severe and terrible winter set in Canada. Snowdrifts formed in great heights and temperatures dropped to extraordinary degrees below zero. While in search of food, the Indian hunters became terrified when they came upon hundreds of birds and small animals lying dead on the frozen snowbanks. Immediately they banded together in great numbers and offered prayers' to the Great Manitou, as they were frightened that the same evil spirits would destroy them also.

The Great-Spirit answered them by instructing them to take one drop of blood from every dead bird and small animal and smear it on the tree that meant life and death to their people. As the Mountain Ash was the tree whence they fashioned bows and arrows, their only means of survival, they chose it and set about as Manitou had made them do. The following morning every tree they had smeared bore thousands of berries. The birds and small animals that had survived were perched on the mountain Ash branches eating the life-giving food.

The happy Indians danced late into the night, giving thanks to Manitou, who in return gave his promise that whenever a cold winter was approaching again, he would cover these trees with food.

It will be a great winter season at Red Mountain Resort and Rossland, come see for yourself!

My fiancé took me out for dinner last week to the Gypsy at Red. It was an incredible fine dining experience with a menu that will tantalize your palate. I couldn’t believe all the options that looked incredible, although I had to decide I can’t wait to go back and try some other dishes. The ambiance was great at the Gypsy, the warm breeze coming in from the patio and watching the sky brighten with the rising moon all enhanced the evening.

The Gypsy at Red is an award winning restaurant, located at the base of the beautiful Red Mountain in Rossland, BC. The Gypsy serves up a unique blend of creative gourmet meals, integrating amazing flavours into each beautiful dish. The Gypsy at Red is an experience not to be missed, enjoy their fabulous options in their new menu as well as homemade desserts and a great wine list.

Check out the Gypsy at Red and experience the personable service and attention to detail, I can’t wait to return!

Today I had my first Rossland muffin, from Clancey’s. Everyone had been telling me I had to try it and today I did. It is one of the largest muffins I have ever seen and it is filled with cream cheese! I have visited Clancey’s a few times; it’s a great place to sip a latte. I have noticed these giant warm muffins before but didn’t know if I could handle it. A friend brought me one this morning and waited in anticipation on my first bite and my first experience of this unknown land. I was amazed.

I have noticed during my summer here that Rosslanders’ both work and play hard and this also applies to their muffins. This is more than a muffin, this is a Rossland muffin.

Elevated beauty, unassuming charm and a golden past characterize Rossland. This truly is the best place to live, work and play. Some of the unlimited activities in Rossland include, mountain biking, golfing, hiking, horseback riding, downhill, Nordic and snow cat skiing, snowshoeing and dog sledding. And of course their incredible dining, spas and numerous festivals and events throughout the year are other great reason to visit.

Nestled in the crater of an ancient volcano at an elevation of 1023 meters, Rossland is one of Canada’s highest cities. With an average annual snowfall of 750 centimeters (300”) at Red Mountain, Rossland has a renowned reputation for powder skiing and has produced some of Canada’s best ski racers. Rossland offers mountain bikers and hikers hundreds of kilometers of trails, all radiating from the center of town.

Check out Rossland and be sure to try a muffin!

The fourth annual Little Fest took place a few weekends ago at the Little Slocan Lodge. Performers included Agnostic Mountain Gospel Choir, The Cave Singers, Frazey Ford & Ora Cogan, United Steelworkers of Montreal, The Pasties, Fish & Bird, Widow Maker and Kenny Konrad & Old Blind Crow.

There was an outdoor stage, beverage garden, food concession and free camping. The great music went from noon till 2 am.  The atmosphere was so incredible and you could feel it even from walking up the path. The mountain music was drifting through the trees; it was a very unique venue.

Despite the rain, wind and hail the crowd at Little Fest continued to dance and have a good time; nearly 450 people braved the weather and enjoyed all the very talented emerging bands.
