Salmon Arm, Boating & Sailing

Houseboating on the Shuswap Lake is our family's favourite all time vacation. We shared our boat with another family there were about 14 of us each year. It was the most relaxing laid back best holiday. We tended to find a great spot there are many and stay put. We had a speed boat with us as well lots of fun for skiing wakeboarding fishing shopping etc. Our best spot was toward the north end of Seymour Arm. There is a great park with a hike up to some falls at Albas Marine Park. Our beach was small protected with a small creek. The older kids camped on the beach the rest of us stayed on the houseboat. Even with the fancy boat we turned our back on the TV(yahoo!). The cards and games came out and many hours were spent playing games. We'd fall in the lake when we were hot fall into bed when tired eat whenever and read lots of books and just plain relax. One year the kids spent 3 days building this this rock fort and signed thier names. By the end of the summer lots of people had added their names I guess they liked what they saw too.

A favourite drive of mine is from Kamloops to Barriere along the less travelled Westsyde Road where remnants of the disatrous forest fires of 2003 are very visible. The trees are blackened and skeletal but the rebirth of the land is clear. Grass is vibrant green wildflowers abound and new forest growth is already apparent.

A favourite summer hideaway of mine is Silverton on beautiful Slocan Lake. The quiet village of Silverton looks across the pristine lake to the Valhalla Mountain Range where the peaks remain snow-capped well into summer.

Revelstoke, Camping

We have NEVER enjoyed a campground as much as Noah's Ark between Revelstoke and Sicamous. We regretted the fact that we only planned 1 night there. Thanks to the fantastic hospitality from Sonia and Jano, we spent most of our time socializing with them and the other guests in the sheltered common area. They brought us coffees, made sure the children all had popcorn and marshmallows for roasting, and went out of their way to make sure our stay was totally enjoyable. And talk about CLEAN ... the place is spotless. Had we known in advance how wonderful our hosts would be, we would have booked in longer. We didn't get the time to rent an Argo, but will do that next time. There DEFINITELY will be a next time. Chinook (the St Bernard) and the parrot Jasmine will also keep you entertained. Thanks again to Sonia and Jano ... you have made some new friends here.

Within an hour of downtown Victoria, I can be strolling around the small town of Chemainus and while probably best known for being the world’s largest outdoor gallery, I discovered it has a whole lot more in the works this summer. This year marks the town’s 25th anniversary since its first mural was painted and there are several activities going on to celebrate.
Beyond meandering through town to view the 38 murals while enjoying my favourite ice cream, I can hit the Wednesday night market where a great selection of local crafts and produce can be found. Waterwheel Park is a great place to hang out at any time of day! (By the way, for those directionally challenged (that’d be me), it is comforting to know painted footprints help direct people through the self-guided mural tour plus you can pick up a map at the Visitor Centre).
The Chemainus Festival Theatre is running “Murder on the Nile” and “Anything Goes” as well as shows for kids such as Munschworx. I love this theatre because while it continually produces quality, professional performances, its small size creates an intimate atmosphere with every seat seemingly the best in the house. A bonus this year is the free outdoor performances until early September called, “The Chemainus Revue” that depict the history of the town. There is always something going on in Chemainus this summer!

White Rock, Accommodation
Re: LaVillettina Bed & Breakfast, White Rock, BC
July, 2007 - I recently had the pleasure of discovering LaVillettina through Tourism BC. I linked to LaVillettina's website and knew I had found the perfect home away from home for my two week visit to BC.
The thought of staying at motel/hotel (security issues?) by myself did not appeal. My accommodation at LaVillettina included a very clean and pristine combination kitchen/sitting room, separate bedroom, bathroom and private outside access. All of the amenities, as stated on their website, were in place and functional and I was not disappointed.
Needless to say, I would highly recommend LaVillettina to those who require clean and modern accommodation, and easy access to shopping, the beach, restaurants and entertainment. Lastly, the owners were very professional and friendly. All of this contributed to my successful visit to B.C.
