The south Needle is one of three peaks known as The Needles, on the ridge that runs from Lynn Peak to Coliseum Mountain. Best accessed from Hydraulic Creek in the LSCR.
This is a a challenging day hike with a difficult and moderately exposed section on the final ridge. It is also one of the least visited and most rewarding low-altitude peaks on the North Shore. In winter, ice axe and crampons are recommended.

The Baby Munday Area is a spectacular hiking area just East of Chilliwack. To reach this incredible alpine wilderness, it is best to plan an overnight hike. The trail is very steep and requires about 720m of elevation gain. Access is from the Foley Lake Forestry Service Road (just off the Chilliwack Lake Road). A good route description can be found in a book called 'Scrambles in SW BC' by Matt Gunn. Once up in the alpine, several peaks can be climbed, including Knight Peak (an intermediate hike), Baby Munday North Peak (moderate scramble), and Stewart Peak (moderate scramble with some exposure).

Gold River, Hiking

The best way to hike the Nootka Island Trail is to charter a flight with Air Noota from Gold River to Louie Bay Lagoon at the north end of the island and then hike south along the coastline until you reach Yuquot. From there, you can catch the MV Uchuck (old mine sweeper) back to Gold River. The Uchuck stops at Yuquot a couple of times a week. The trail takes about four or five days to hike. Knowledge of tidal timetable is essential since some of the trail is below the high tide mark. This is wilderness area, so first aid and self-rescue skills are recommended.
