Soar hundreds of feet above the valley floor and whiz past old-growth forests...and then tell the world about it! Ziplining in Whistler is just one activity to share on Hellobc.com/blogs.

In mid July the North Peace Leisure Pool located in Fort St. John, reopened its doors after extensive renovations were completed. I headed over to the pool to check out the reno’s but to also experience the public swim and hot tub!

I was amazed to find that the pool offers many features such as a large waterslide, a multi-lane pool and a kid pool which has the ability to change the sloped, beach-like pool into a wave pool!

After the fun public swim and hanging out in the hot tub we headed out to leave but were pleasantly surprised to learn of a great opportunity for travelers and locals alike – the pool offers a cardio room with lots of work out equipment! I know I will be there to workout when I don’t need to buy an expensive gym membership.

In mid July I celebrated my birthday by heading out to a friend’s piece of property near Cecil Lake which is just outside of Fort St. John on Cecil Lake Rd which turns into highway 64 once in Alberta.

When we started the drive I expected a short drive consisting of some scenery and highway but once we turned onto Cecil Lake Road I was astounded at the scenery one gets to experience with a simple drive through the countryside. Once on the road you follow the Beatton River but the greatest part is the landscape and how quickly it changes from flat to climbing the side of a mountain!

Being from Ontario this kind of drive is one of my favorites due to the fact I get to see some amazing views like being on top of the grade and looking down over the river with a lush forest all around!

Earlier this week I was taken out for dinner at On the Rocks Neighborhood Pub in Fort St. John. When arriving at the pub I was a bit hesitant but was reminded by my friend to not judge a book by its cover!

Once inside and browsing the menu I was shocked at the variety of meals available – from appetizers, wraps, sandwiches, full meals and a great variety of drinks! I had the chicken souvlaki wrap which consisted fresh chicken, cheese, tomatoes and tzaziki sauce…mmm my favorite! The Pub also features dancing on the weekends!

Last night I went out to Charlie Lake with some friends to spend the night next to the water and relaxing on the deck of a great little cabin. We decided to have a BBQ but made it gourmet! It was a great night next to the lake with the calm setting of the sun and of course delectable food!

On a beautiful summer day in late June I decided to spend my day off as an adventurous one and head to a golf course to test out my not-so-awesome skills of golf.

I wanted to enjoy a nice leisurely day of enjoying the weather and some exercise. I decided to choose a 9 hole golf course that is not too challenging. I chose the Farmington Golf Course located off the Alaska Highway. I chose Farmington to get a great drive in from Fort  St. John and enjoy a day away from the city.

On my way back from golfing I took a detour over the Kiskatinaw River Bridge which is the last standing wooden, curved bridge on the Alaska Highway. I love the view of the river it gives and the amazing engineering that went into its construction.

For a change of scenery I decided to check out the trails at Charlie Lake Provincial Park. They offer great trails within a lush forest and beautiful flora and fauna. While exiting the trials I saw a moose at one of the campsites which was a terrifying but exciting experience! I am not well versed in moose-etiquette but my friend informed me that the moose was young but was not with a mother therefore less dangerous. In Charlie Lake Provincial Park I felt I was nowhere near a city, it lets you feel free from the hustle and bustle of city life.

The other night I was in downtown Fort St. John contemplating how to spend my evening. I grabbed a coffee at Java on Main then decided to walk downtown. I started out at the intersection of 100th Street and 100th Avenue. Once at that intersection I saw a new kiosk which I later found out was part of the City’s new unveiling of a Pioneer Pathway. This pathway features kiosks showcasing historic Fort St. John with pictures of pioneer businesses and what Fort St. John used to look like! When I started the walk I headed down 100th Street to see more of the kiosk, all of them tell of stories about how pioneers came to Fort St. John, their struggles and their positive impact on the community. I enjoyed my coffee, history and a leisurely walk.

With the summer heat taking its toll on everyone I went to Beatton Provincial Park outside of Fort St. John on Charlie Lake to enjoy the many amenities they have! With the sun shining and hardly any wind I decided to head to the provincial park and read my book. When driving in I followed the signs for the day use area where I found an area with BBQ stations, a play area, a gazebo, a boat launch and a great beach area! I did not venture in the water but I did sit on the edge of the beach reading my book with my feet in the water! It was a great day of relaxation by a beautiful lake.

Being in the Peace Region during the summer months away from home in Ontario I thought I would be missing all the eclectic foods. But in Fort St. John I was surprised about the variety of ethnic foods available! One of my favorite places to eat and be reminded of home is Saigon Noodles which features Vietnamese inspired dishes! My favorite is number 17, curry noodles with shrimp! Yum yum!
