Red is a big mountain with a small town feel! I skied around Red Mountain on a bluebird day and sampled the diverse terrain. Red is a hidden jewel of the Kootenays with 3000 vertical feet of tree-skiing, wide open glades and fast groomers. Everyone is so friendly, their favorite colour is definitely red, and you will see that the views are truly unreal!

As part of the celebration of the one-year countdown festivities for Vancouver 2010 Winter Games, I joined Active Communities Vancouver Step Out Walk that explores the changing skyline around Southeast False Creek and the Olympic and Paralympic Village. During the beautiful 3km walk around False Creek, I spoke with Olympic Silver Medalist Karen Magnussen and Olympian Darcy Marquardt and Sabrina Kolker! This is a fantastic family walk and you can feel the Winter Games excitement in the air... so come on out and step it up!

Up at Fernie Alpine Resort, I finished a day of great tree-skiing and then headed into the village for some apres ski at the Griz Bar. There I ran into a local who tells me about the Griz Legend that explains why Fernie gets its special brand of powder snow! I should also mention that the apres is so good up there I ended up passing out in a slopeside igloo at the end of the night!

This place has awesome terrain and a cool village! There are ridges and powder filled bowls or you can cruise with your family down the gentle groomed slopes. Anyway you look at it this place has a bit of something for everyone.

I spent a morning with Whitewater Ski Patrol during an inbounds avalanche control. These guys know their stuff and that lets Whitewater Winter Resort share all of its Kootenay powder with us. After bombing, a whole side of the mountain was opened for the public to safely ski fresh powder! And you'll see the perks for the ski patrol... the first face shots of the day!

I went from skiing fresh tracks to apres at Fresh Tracks in Whitewater Winter Resort! What a day.... I enjoyed the powder, people, food and drink at this awesome resort. At the end of the day, I hung out with locals and other visitors at the Fresh Tracks Cafe... I love the apres!

Fresh Tracks Cafe's healthy gourmet meals earned it the title of “Best Cafeteria Food” from Ski Canada magazine (2008). Plus the local brewery makes a nice West Kootenay traditionally styled ale to top it off!
