It’s been open for more than a year now, but I finally made it on the Peak 2 Peak Gondola last week.
I’ve been excited about the Peak 2 Peak since I first heard about it. I didn’t pay much attention to all of the records it was breaking and didn’t really care how high or fast it was, I was just happy that there was finally going to be a way to ski Whistler and Blackcomb in the same day with little effort.
For years most drives to the mountain would begin with a debate with which side we’d ski (usually snowboarders voting for Blackcomb and skiers voting for Whistler): now we could do both with ease.
So when we got off at the Roundhouse and made the short walk to the Peak 2 Peak, I wasn’t that excited about the ride. I’ve been on numerous gondolas over the years and they have all been more or less the same…that is until now.
I was actually a little shocked about how much I enjoyed the Peak 2 Peak. While I had read about how high it was and how long it was, I didn’t appreciate the enormity of it until we left the station. The views are incredible and having such a long unsupported span almost made it feel like a bit of an adventure. As for the logistics and other parts of the Peak 2 Peak, it was perfect. We only had to wait a minute or so to get on, the gondola held about 15 or so people comfortably and the entire ride was really smooth.
I’m not sure if or when the novelty of the “ride” aspect will eventually wear off, but for now I love it and even if it does wear off I’ll still love the fact I can ride Blackcomb and Whistler in the same morning.

Having considered a weekend getaway milling about Seattle or relaxing on Galiano Island, learning that
Whistler has now completed it's annual metamorphasis into a winter wonderland sealed the deal.
Snow
is calming. Snow slows one down. Snow makes regular dirty old things
appear pristine and pretty. Whistler is built for nice times in the
snow. And that is what we had. Take this
shot of Alta Lake as evidence. Beat that Seattle!
I
was so happy to have found a quality, non-pretenious, non-chain and
visa-light tapas restaurant. So delighted I'm not telling you it's
name - you can earn it by
exploring tapas haunts in Whistler online.
There are awesome overnight deals to be had in Whistler. We had a central studio with full kitchen for $89 at the
Whistler Inn & Suites
that I found on HelloBC.com. With about 2 feet of snow having
collected at Village level, the mountain is well and truely ready to be
conquered by
ski or board.
If
you go, make sure you take a walk around Lost Lake where you can spot
cute lake otters appearing out of the ice to hang out and eat their
freshly caught fish.

My husband and I were lucky enough to travel to Whistler BC in late March 09 courtesy of the BC Tourist Board. We had heard great reports about the Ski resort and were excited to be visiting the site of the 2010 Winter Olympics. We were also looking forward to seeing Canada in the Winter, after a three weeks Summer road trip the previous year.
After a 10 hour flight and three hour transfer we arrived at our accomodation in the centre of Whistler, The Blackcomb Lodge and Spa. The Lodge was ideally placed in the Market Square and had helpful and friendly staff on hand. The room we had was spacious and comfortable with microwave and fridge.
The following day we collected our Ski equipment and headed to the lifts. There were at least three lifts taking Skiers, Boarders and foot passengers up either Whistler of Blackcomb Mountains. These lifts were always well staffed and excellently managed, we never had to stand in line for more than 5 minutes, a pleasant experience after Europe.
Once on the Piste we were faced by miles and miles of well posted and groomed slopes, that more than challenged our ability. The friendliness and discipline and overall civility of the people we came into contact with was most refreshing. There were also numerous safety staff on hand should anything go wrong.
Overall my opinion of Whistler BC Canada is that if you get the chance its a must. Fantastic scenary, Skiing and people and off course the Apres.
