Soar hundreds of feet above the valley floor and whiz past old-growth forests...and then tell the world about it! Ziplining in Whistler is just one activity to share on Hellobc.com/blogs.

What is Haida Gwaii known for? It's beautiful scenery! And where do you find such spectacular areas, worthy of filling up your memory card in your camera? Hiking!

My friend and I decided to go on a short hike together. We wanted one close to the city of Queen Charlotte, so I suggested we try the Gore Brook Trail. Located in the forests just outside of the town, we spent our morning trekking through a fairly easy hike, past mossy trees and through small creeks. Since the last time I had hiked the Gore Brook Trail, I found it to be well maintained and was impressed at how such a beautiful hike was so close!

I found some curled up black and yellow millipedes on the trail, always littered in the forest. They remind me so much of the hikes I went on as a child, and how they never got old no matter how many times I trekked through!

I will definitely be hiking more this summer, seeing how amazing our weather forecast is looking so far! For any information on hikes on Haida Gwaii, call us at the visitor centre (250-559-8316)! From hikes through beautiful old growth forests to beach walks, we have hikes for all!

One of my most fondest memories of travelling Haida Gwaii was hiking the Cape Fife Trail and walking out towards Rose Spit and back towards Tow Hill on the north end of the island. Now don't get me wrong, it was long and grueling. We tried to do it in one day but ended up cutting off going all the way to the end of Rose Spit. It took us 11 hours and we ended up walking about 30km.

It was fun, dirty, and challenging, with the trail being full of fallen logs, mud swamps, thick forest, ocean viewpoints, and sandy beaches. It is beautifully scenic to be completely surrounded by green - trees, moss, ferns, grass and old growth. Then to walk on the completely open beach is a whole new experience, as you trudge through the thick sand. What a journey and an experience of a lifetime.

I would suggest doing just the Cape Fife Trail, or going all the way out to Rose Spit in two days, in order to be able to thoroughly enjoy one of the most serene locations in beautiful British Columbia.

The Spirit Lake Walk is an amazing guided walk with Linda Tollas through the old growth forest in Skidegate. While on the walk, Linda talks to the interested crowd about how the plants on Haida Gwaii were traditionally used. The guided walk starts at the head of the Spirit Lake Trail every Wednesday at 1:30pm.

This is an odd stone pillar I found in the local forest near Port Clements.
