I went with a friend to lunch at this new restaurant in town. From the topiaries at the front and the hostess opening the door to welcome the guests, we had a great time!
The restaurant is big and tastefully decorated with several TVs, a great sound system with music and a Sports Bar in the center. On the day I was there, the place was full of people laughing and enjoying lunch.
The menu has a lot of fresh food dishes and I was especially pleased to have a choice of very healthy items to choose from. I had chicken with braised cabbage & feta instead rice with my lunch.
The service was excellent as well.
My prediction is this place will be around and popular for a long time. I know it will be a favorite for me.

Right in the middle of town on
102nd Ave is the Hug-A-Mug coffee shop and it has a couple of tables
outside. I met my friend there the
other day and really enjoyed just sitting in the sun enjoying my favorite
specialty coffee.
There was a constant stream of
people passing by consisting of both locals and visitors. It was great to say hello, have a few
mini visits.
The Hug a Mug is less than ½ a
block away from the Mile O Post that sits in the middle of the main
intersection so we had a great view of the visitors who were jaywalking over to
have their pictures taken.
The Mile O Post is one of the
most recognized and photographed monuments in Canada. We noticed how patient the motorists are with the people
jaywalking to get to the post and also saw a local offer to take the photo so
that both visitors could get in on it. It reaffirmed what a friendly community we have.
Hug a Mug is a popular spot for
lunch. Laurie and her staff are
really friendly and make great food.

Stuies Diner is one of the newest restaurants in Dawson Creek. The parking lot is often full and it is very popular with both the locals and visitors.
It's a big shiny silver metal building with a 50's retro theme. You can choose to sit in a booth or sit at the old fashioned counter.
There is a big jukebox in a corner and the music is nostalgic. The waitresses were wearing 50's style uniforms too. We listened to Elvis Presley and Buddy Holly while we ate.
The menu has mostly hamburger and fries and the portions are generous. We got there just as the supper crowd was starting to come in and within minutes the place was full.
It's on the east side of 8th Street, which is one of the main drags in town and there is easy parking. It's a great trip down memory lane.

There is a new coffee house in town and it's really great! It's called Cups Tea & Cakes and I spent a morning there last week. I brought my laptop to catch up on some work, sat at a high table in the corner with my favorite large Americano with cream and watched the scene on the street and the constant comings and goings in the shop.
Cupcakes are the specialty of the café and they have upwards of 20 varieties for sale each day. The mixing, baking and decorating are done behind the counter for customers to watch and I admit to watching with great interest as batches of icing were flavored and piped onto the many cupcakes.
Strawberry Shortcake, Black Forest, Coconut Lime, Cookies 'n Cream, Red Velvet, Mocha are just a few of the names. It's as hard to choose your favorite cupcake as it is to pick a favorite ice cream. I guess the best way is to just try a different one every time.
Another feature worth noting in this café is their beautiful washroom with granite counters and glass basin... everything sparkling clean.
This is going to be a favorite spot for locals and visitors.

When I heard that I could get my favorite Italian Gelato (ice cream) in town, I was thrilled!
The Café Europa has an international atmosphere (Italian & Hungarian) and a menu featuring specialty coffees, European sandwiches and deserts. The display cases are a work of art.
It's right downtown, a block away from the Mile O Post, tucked away in a long narrow building. You can pop in when you are downtown checking out the murals. Then you can stroll and eat ice cream or enjoy your coffee at the same time.
Within days of opening it's doors, this little eatery became a favorite with locals and visitors alike.
The café is open for breakfast, brunch, lunch and dinner. You can eat in or take out and there is a small veranda out back to sit and enjoy your food in the summer months. This is the only place in town where you can eat Tapis one week and Turkish Barbeque the next.
I'm most excited about the international nights – Italian, Greek, Spanish, Serbian, Hungarian, German, French, Turkish menus. All those flavors in one restaurant.

When I lived in the city, I got hooked on Wor Wonton Soup and thought a move to a northern community would mean the end of that. What a great surprise to learn that Dawson Creek has excellent Vietnamese Food.
Tucked away in a small corner of a mini-mall is the Noodle Hut, one of our favorite local restaurants in town (1405 102nd Ave).
The first thing you notice about this little treasure is how small it is and how busy it is. But don't let size fool you. This is a top-drawer restaurant and it's been a part of the community for many years.
The menu is authentic Vietnamese and absolutely delicious. It's licensed and has great service. It's also a favorite take-out in town.
I wish I could vouch for every dish on the menu, but I am so in love with the Wor Wonton Soup and Spring Rolls, I don't seem to order anything else. My friends do and they all have their favorites as well. The portions are very generous and the prices are very reasonable.
Maybe next time I'll order something else... then again... maybe not...

I love homemade organic
food! We have a great little
eatery in town that is a favorite spot for local residents and visitors
alike. It's within close walking
distance to downtown and has a menu of homemade
and locally grown food. I can
personally vouch for lunch menu (soups, baked goodies, sandwiches, salads).
The first thing you will
notice when you enter is the tantalizing smells of homemade food and a very
welcoming atmosphere.
There is proactive
environmental policy written on the front of the till counter that is really
powerful to read. Under the Willow
has a mission to reduce, reuse and recycle and the tearoom is known for using biodegradable
products and composting. In the
spring, scraps are donated as needed to a local animal rescue center to feed
bear cubs.
Attached to the restaurant is
a used book and record store to poke around in.
It's is also a favorite venue for local artists and
musicians to play and jam, so you never know what you might have happened
upon. The last time I went, it was
"Open Mike", and I was surprised by how many brave folks got up and
shared their talents.
This is a great place to have
lunch when you are exploring downtown Dawson Creek.
It has wonderful food, a great environment, friendly service and very
reasonable prices all while supporting an eco-friendly business.

I learned a long time ago that the best Cinnamon Buns, Carrot Cake and Nanaimo Bars in town are at the Hug-A-Mug cafe.
Good timing means getting a table for lunch. It's right downtown on 102nd Ave and a big favorite with the local crowds for lunch and informal get-togethers and meetings.
They make everything right in the kitchen so you can order a home made soup, pick your own ingredients for a sandwich, choose a salad and top it all off with your choice of the many delectable deserts laid out in front of you.
First thing in the morning, there is a steady stream of downtown business people coming to get their coffee, favorite breakfast food and the latest local news.
This cafe is known for its friendliness, wonderful food and big underwater mural. The only problem is choosing what you want from the menu. Everything is as good as Mom made it.
I love to go in early, order my favorite coffee, sit for a while and have mini-visits with the people that come in.
Less than a block from the Mile O Post, and right across the street from Alaska Highway House Interpretive Center this is definitely a great place to stop for lunch when you are walking around and exploring town.

Rolla is tiny hamlet about 15 km from Dawson Creek. A cosy community, it is home to the famous -- or infamous -- Rolla Pub.
It doesn't look like much when you drive up -- just a run-down square box of a building with a sign out front. But open the door and suddenly you know you are no longer in Kansas, Dorothy!
The walls of the Rolla Pub -- heck every available square inch -- is covered with photographs, plaques, pictures, pennants, knick knacks, and more. It's an explosion of kitsch.
Check out the photos on the wall. They're of local families, their kids and friends. Trophies and plaques commemorate events and accomplishments that you would expect to see in someone's living room. In fact, the Rolla Pub feels like someone's living room -- a cosy, cluttered, well-loved living room.
Service at the pub is warm and friendly and before long, folks at the next table are chatting us up. The beer is cold and the company warm which makes for a great combo!
