Soar hundreds of feet above the valley floor and whiz past old-growth forests...and then tell the world about it! Ziplining in Whistler is just one activity to share on Hellobc.com/blogs.

This weekend (July 6-8) was the 18th annual Show and Shine in Dawson Creek. Organized by the Dawson Creek Mile Zero Cruisers club it was a weekend of sun, fun and cars. Every year the club puts on an amazing car show featuring all different kinds of vehicles from all over BC and Alberta. A record-breaking 276 cars were displayed over three blocks in the downtown area this weekend with a wide range of cars being shown. Some of the highlights included a 1972 Triumph TR6, a 2005 Dodge Neon SRT-4, a 1923 Ford C-CAB, a 1959 Ford Galaxy Skyline Retractable, a 1988 Chevrolet Cavalier, a 1998 Suzuki Samy, a 1953 Hudson Hornet and even a 2013 Ford Escape. The streets were full of locals and tourists alike out to enjoy the 31 degree Celsius weather.  The local downtown businesses also contributed to the happy atmosphere by opening their doors and enticing customers with ice cream, slushies, pie and lemonade. A live band was playing appropriate car show hits such as “Mustang Sally” while people danced to in the street. All of these attributes; the cars, the people, music and of course the food make this a weekend not to be missed by car enthusiasts or anyone looking to have a good time in Dawson Creek.

When I travel, I take my laptop. When I stop for a break from driving, I like to find a place that allows me to connect to the Internet so that I can check my email, make a travel blog entry and surf the web for information on the area I am in.

Who wants to drive around searching for places that might have service? Especially in an RV? I found out that Dawson Creek makes it easy for visitors.

There are 2 spots in our city to take advantage of free and easy wireless access. The locations were chosen for their proximity to services geared for visitor convenience.

1. N.A.R. Park (easy RV parking, near the Visitors Center, Art Gallery, Museum)

2. Downtown Core around the Mile O Post and Alaska Highway House (you'll want to check that out anyway)

Go ahead, check your email, write your blogs, surf the web, but remember you are on vacation,  so no 'work'...

When we go traveling we often stop at the Visitor's Center to get the information on what we happen to need from the location.  Sometimes we need a Laundromat, sometimes we're looking for the choices of bed-and-breakfasts.

Here is a quick overview of the services and attractions in Dawson Creek. Of course, you'll probably want to stop at the Visitors Center in the N.A.R. Park too for all the complete information. (there is plenty of RV parking there and it's right beside the traffic circle in the middle of town, you can't miss it)

Dawson Creek offers a full range of RV Facilities, lodging in hotels/motels and bed-and-breakfasts, dining-in restaurants and fast-food outlets, gas stations, campgrounds, laundromats, department stores, banks, grocery, drug and hardware stores, antique shops and other specialty shops.

We have a modern hospital, a public library, a college, churches, and great recreation facilities.

Things to Check Out:

- The Alaska Highway House showcases the history of the Alaska Highway.

- Mile 0 marker of the Alaska Highway is located in downtown Dawson Creek and a popular photo subject.

- Dawson Creek Station Museum, at Northern Alberta Railways (NAR) Park, displays pioneer artifacts and wildlife collections.

- Dawson Creek Art Gallery, housed in a huge wooden grain elevator, features local and regional artists’ work.

- Walter Wright Pioneer Village contains an impressive collection of local pioneer buildings and recently built replicas.

- Picnic and swim at Mile 0 Rotary Park.

- Stretch your legs on the scenic Dawson Creek Walking Path.

- Tour Dawson Creek’s murals, which portray aspects of Alaska Highway construction.
There is plenty to do and plenty to see here.

It's no wonder Dawson Creek won a place on the Gamestown Podium... I could hear the cheering from miles away...

Did you get a chance to check out the letters on the Dawson Creek gamestown2010 website? If you did, which ones did you enjoy?
I was so impressed with the stories I read.  Once I started I couldn't stop reading. I found entry after entry by people just like me who love our lifestyle here in our northern city.

I realized that a common experience we all value so highly is our deep sense of community... we do so much, and we love to do it together!

•    We play outside in the snow and sun
•    We splash around in pools, lakes and rivers
•    We cheer from rodeo stands, sidelines and bleachers
•    We fill our auditoriums for big concerts, small concerts and all the in between concerts
•    We volunteer, we dance, we eat and we sing
•    Together!

I read stories about our big beautiful blue skies, our spectacular northern lights, our fresh air and clean water.

There are stories about our world-class wind park, our expanding use of renewable energy and commitment to a balanced industry and healthy environment. We are green and proud of it!

For this Mile O Citizen, Dawson Creek will always have a place on the podium!

I'd love to hear your stories of what you love about the Peace River Country and her people.

On Wednesday, July 8, 2009 my children and I decided to visit the "Walter Wright Pioneer Village" in Dawson Creek, BC.  It was an amazing trip and we saw many wonderful exhibits.  My children especially liked the old school house - they thought writing with old-fashioned ink pens was so cool!  They had each exhibit very well displayed with many historic items to see and marvel over.  The absolute best part of the trip though was the vintage style photo studio.

My girls and I went in and she had the coolest pictures and props in there.  We decided to get our picture taken dressed in the 'pioneer style' and she gave us the coolest costumes to put on.  After she had taken our picture, she asked if we would like to go outside and do a couple poses out there.  We thought that was great!  She set it up so that it looked like we were having a 'pioneer picnic'.  They turned out so nice!

I was was really impressed with the service there and I thought the prices were reasonable.  I'd definately recommend stopping by there to check it out!

So much hard work and dedication has been done in this museum. I absolutely love animals and having the chance to see them up close and personal was amazing. My hat goes off to the South Peace Historical Society.

On July 6, 2009 Paul Brandt graced Dawson Creek with his country music at the Encana Events Center. Opening for him was up and coming country singer Jason Blaine from Pembroke, Ontario who is an amazing entertainer. He just released his second album and one day will be a big artist. Some of the songs he played include That’s what I do, Heartache Like Mine, My First Car and Give it to me. He is also very good looking, which helps the eyes a little.

Paul Brandt came on stage at around 8:15 and played for over an hour and a half. He played many of his old songs including Alberta Bound, My Heart Has a History and Canadian Man. Born and raised in Calgary, Alberta, Brandt made his way to Nashville to get a name for himself and has won many awards for his songs. Brandt was very interactive with the crowd and talked about his experience in Dawson Creek the last time he was here. Apparently he was on stage last time and a small petit woman, who actually turned out to be a big momma, pulled him off stage but the nice citizens put him back up again to keep playing. This is just some of the humor that he shared with the crowd. Besides the turnout, the concert was far from a disappointment. Less then 2000 people filled the 5000 capacity seats, but those people who didn’t attend sure missed a good show. I will definitely be attending the next show that Paul Brandt or Jason Blaine hold in Dawson Creek.
