There are tremendous sport-fishing opportunities in the Bella Coola Valley. Go in search of deep-water halibut, rock cod, delectable crabs or giant prawns. Or cast a line in swift-running rivers and streams in search of a cutthroat or rainbow trout, Dolly Varden or one of the area's spectacular salmon. Whatever the goal, Bella Coola offers enthusiasts a vast range of fishing experiences.
Long before the Europeans arrived, the First Nations Nuxalk people fished the Bella Coola river systems for food and trade goods. By the early 1900s, a vibrant commercial fishing industry was born. But alongside commercial enterprises, sport fishing thrived. Today Bella Coola's natural bounty attracts fishing enthusiasts of all levels.
The most sought-after fish here is the salmon. All five Pacific species of salmon spawn in the rivers with overlapping runs – this means that there will often be two or even three types of salmon fighting their way up to spawning grounds.

Our Grizzly Bear Tours have been selected by the Canadian Tourism Commission as part of their "Signature Experiences Collection"! Our tours run September through October. This is when the local rivers are teeming with salmon which draw the Grizzly Bears hoping to fatten up for the winter. At this time of year the Grizzlies are intent on fishing and are more tolerant of both other bears and people and are therefore much easier to observe.
Accompanied by an experienced guide, our non-motorized drift trips are the perfect way to see the bears and wildlife of the Bella Coola Valley.
