Two exceptional parks, the UNESCO World Heritage Site, Tatshenshini-Alsek Park and the Atlin Provincial Park, are in close proximity to Atlin.

Tatshenshini-Alsek Park

The Tatshenshini-Alsek Park, commonly referred to as the Tat-Alsek, is the largest of its kind in Canada. The park is located about 160km/100mi to west of Atlin and is considered to have one of the most magnificent river systems in the world. The main rivers are, not surprisingly, the Tatshenshini River and the Alsek River. Within the park is BC's highest peak, Mount Fairweather at 4,633m/15 200ft.

The park sits in the far northwest corner of BC, and borders both the American State of Alaska and the Canadian Yukon Territory. It lies between two wilderness parks. Together these three parks encompass 85,000sq kms/32,819sq mi, making it the largest protected area in the world.
