Located on the Thompson Plateau 33km/20.5mi southwest of Penticton, the largest centre in the South Okanagan, this multi-award-winning resort is famous for dry powder and World Cup level aerial and mogul facilities.
The intimate village at Apex sports a western feel; its cedar-sided buildings blending comfortably with the forested mountain landscape. The terrain creates a natural funnel to the village centre making it ideal for families who can ride the high-speed quad together to the summit, then split up and rip the steep chutes, tackle the powder bowls or cruise the blues and greens. Everybody eventually winds up back at the village.
Easy Access Activities
Every activity at Apex is located within steps of the village centre. The main lifts, beginner hill, tube park, ice rink, skating loop, restaurants, spa and accommodations all cluster in and around the core.
Most Apex accommodations provide ski-in/ski out access either directly to a run or just a short glide away. The residential streets surrounding the village are sited with the same convenience in mind.
Skiing & Snowboarding
An average annual snowfall of 600cm/20ft of dry champagne powder produces reliably fine conditions for downhill skiing and snowboarding from early December through to April. Extensive snowmaking capability extends the early season to accommodate Apex's early season training centre for elite freestyle skiers and ensures there's always enough snow for weekend warriors.
Best Steeps
Downhillers and snowboarders share 68 marked trails with a vertical of 610m/2,000ft. While nearly two-thirds of the runs are rated green and blue, there's plenty of extreme action to satisfy serious thrill seekers. Ski Canada Magazine has honoured Apex with its Best Steeps award.
Cross-Country Skiing
Free-heelers and snowshoers don't have to go far to find their own excellent cross-country skiing conditions. Nickel Plate Cross-Country Ski Club, 6km/4mi west of the resort, lays on 65km/40mi of groomed trails and another 20km/12mi of un-groomed backcountry forestry trails along with 56km/35mi of marked snowshoe trails.
Family Activities
Skiing and snowboarding are the primary winter activities, but there's lots more to do both inside and out, including tubing, skating, pick-up hockey and relaxing spa treatments.
