Great place to start your Scuba, Kayaking or camping trip. This is a well protected area and is home to large number of Float planes with flights to Vancouver and Nanaimo. Sechelt has some of the best weather and is often more like Mexico then BC. The Summers are laid back and beaches a great place to cool off.  Try it you will like it.

Great day in Porpoise bay, with Out rigger canoe paddling in background and kids playingh on the beach. Porpoise bay is protected from Georgia strait by a long inlet and the Skookumchuck. It is a great area for Kayaking and boating all year long. Many great areas to camp up Sechelt inlet. Boat launch at the head of Porpoise bay and a Govt Dock.  Many places to rent Kayaks.

Still lots of snow on mountains above Sechelt

The Mountains above Sechelt still have lots of snow in mid May. This area gets snow from mid oct and can still have snow on the ground in may. This year has been a slower melt so there maybe snow at 3000 ft level till mid June. This is a great area for skidooing, cross country skiing and snow shoeing. Just a 13 km drive up a gravel road gets you to the snow. There are plans in the works to have a fully groomed cross country ski area with 17kms of trails. And many miles of un touched snow and trails with great veiws. Like over looking Howe sound and even all the way to Mt Baker. and then over to nanaimo and up to Comox.

This may be the next Holly Burn or Hemlock Valley.  If you want to get away from the crowds and want lots of snow this is the area to try out. It is a secret so do tell anyone, we don't want a stampede.

Check out Dakota Ridge on the Web or the Tetrahedron. Come and play in the snow and 30 minutes later be Kayaking.  A 35 min ferry ride and short drive is all that keeps you away from lots of snow.
