Chambar may be more popular, but there is another Belgium-themed restaurant in Vancouver - Stella's on Commercial Drive. As much as I love going to Chambar (and I DO love going there) sometimes I crave the less formal atmosphere of Stella's.

Don't get me wrong, Stella's is every bit as good a dining experience as Chambar - the food's great and so are the beers - but the mood is just bit lighter.

Last time I was at Stella's was in the evening. I'd never been here in the evening before; it's a huge, happening singles scene! I likely dampened the mood carrying my 14-month old son through the crowd, but I have to start teaching him how to cruise a room some day, so I might as well start early.

For the best eggs, bacon and abuse with a conscience visit the Elbow Room, 560 Granville Street, Vancouver.

Fantastic value, great fun and enormous portions.

Only those with attitude and a sense of humour should apply.

This is my absolute favourite lunch deli. A bright, spacious room with a relaxed atmosphere, cool jazz, and oh... did I mention the delicious bagels.

Best bagels in Vancouver, hands down! Some people get all twisted up over Montreal style vs. New York style bagels (these are NY style), but I just go for the ones that taste the best.

Thick, chewy and full of doughy flavour, take one bite and you'll be a convert. The menu is rounded out with homemade soups, sandwiches and other bakery items.

Good food, generous portions and reasonable prices, what more could you want in a deli? Mmmmm... I'm getting hungry all over again.

One of the most special places in BC has be the West Coast Trail. The experience of hiking for a week long over beaches and through the rain forest on the west coast of Vancouver island is something I'll never forget.

The view from Whistler

My first trip to Whistler was something I will never forget.  I had been to some big hills in Vermont and Quebec, but I had never yet skiid the rockies.

After our ride up the whistler gondola to the peak on a perfectly clear day - the view cna only be described as magnificient.  It was almost un-real - something out of a painting.

I snapped a few photos, some of my personal all time favorties, to capture the moment, but I don't think I'll ever forget it.

Countdown untill the 2010 Winter Games

Three years from today (February 12), Vancouver will be the focus of the world when the 2010 Winter Games start. To mark the occasion, VANOC unveiled a countdown clock in front of the Vancouver Art Gallery today at lunchtime. It was packed with people so I couldn't get too close yet, but it looked very nice from a distance. Every day when I walk by it on my way to work I'll be reminded that the excitement of the event is only 1096 days or less away.

Damali Lavender Farm Opening

February 7, 2007 | Tips from Us > Duncan, Farms & Orchards

There's an amazing farm developing at the corner of Telegraph & Hutchinson Rd in Cowichan. Six hundred lavender plants were planted in 2005 and another six thousand in 2006 as well as a 2 ½ acre vineyard, a fig orchard, olive trees and a sizeable vegetable garden.

Damali is the project and dream of three partners DAvid & MArsha Stanley and ALIson Philp, hence the acronym DAMALI. This word was subsequently found to be an Arabic word meaning ‘beautiful vision’ and their vision is quickly becoming a reality.

The five different varieties that were planted have thrived and produced much more lavender than had ever been imagined so a steam distillation system (still) was purchased in the summer of 2006 and the partners have been extracting essential oil throughout the summer & fall. Since then they have been kept busy building a Provènce themed shop while making and packaging a variety of products such as soaps, bath salts, dried flowers, pure essential oils, spritzes, culinary lavender, comfort bags, eye pillows, and much more to tantalize the senses. They invite lavender lovers everywhere to come and see, smell, touch and taste on weekends starting at Easter and then in the summer during the week as well. For more information visit www.damali.ca
