When visiting Vancouver don't hesitate to go beyond the city core.  A short distance away from the city centre is Granville Island a mecca of artisan shops.  We strolled through one of the green areas close to the water's edge and captured some great shots on film.

Hot Springs' Brazen Blue Jay

From other posting you will have viewed Tofino Harbour from where the adventure tour to Hot Spring's departs.  The canopyed cover trail to the hot springs I have also highlied and mentioned the brazen blue jay.  Here is is in all his splendour.   We hard brough sunflower seeds with us to enjoy on the trail.  Little did we know that this blue jay would so eagerly eat from our hand and then accompany us the rest of the way.

Hot Spring's Trail

Once disembarking from the small boat that brought you from Tofino habour to Hot Spring's Cove, the foot path to the Springs is a delight in to itself.  To find oneself in the lush rain forest can only be described as to lose oneself in this natural gem and to leave all the stressors of your daily grind behind.  Around every turn is something amazing to behold.  A flower blooming in late October, the vista of the ocean beyond the trees, or the canopy above you.  Looking at where your feet step, there is a story to be told in each step as the boards are etched with the names of visitors who have traversed this course before you.  If you are lucky a brazen blue jay will meet you half way at the observation deck.

When you come out of the parking lot at Wickannish beach and see the vast expanse of beach and water, it just takes your breath away.  This is such a great location to walk and walk and enjoy the sand, sun and sea.

We found this wonderful little campground called Lucern in Mount Robson Park. Mount Robson was the main attraction for us, then we stopped at this little spot. The picture I took is right from our campspot, standing beside the picnic table. A beautiful little lake to canoe on and very peaceful surroundings.

Seals, Sea Stars and Sea Spray

Great kayaking - for all levels - can be found throughout the Gulf Islands National Park Reserve.  My personal favourite trip this past summer was a guided tour with Blue Vista Kayaking on Mayne Island.  We launched from Bennett Bay and had a 3 hour paddle around some beautiful islets that form part of the Reserve.  The water clarity was amazing so we saw lots of underwater marine life - including spiny sea stars.  The icing on the cake was seeing seals and their cubs.
